We recently had a big birthday here at Life In A Can!
Now I know he is not too chuffed about it but indeed it has happened and needs to be celebrated!
Whilst we have been enjoying our full time family travel across Europe and now the Asia side of Europe traveling with the kids and embracing caravan life with Susy, Ian has turned 50!
It is not so easy to find things to buy someone for their birthday when we don’t need anything and we frankly do not have any space for anything so instead we are all about experiences!
So whilst in Bulgaria we knew that Depeche Mode, Ian’s favourite band would be playing a couple of hours away in Bucharest, but Ian had resigned himself to not going, both logistically, financially and because we had committed to a workaway in Bulgaria.
However I had other plans and got to work, contacting our immediate family and speaking to the owners of the campsite we were staying on and working on, to see what I could do!
I wanted more than anything to get him to Bucharest for to see his favourite band for his big birthday and so I got to work.
Everyone got involved and together we made it happen!
Depeche Mode was playing on the Weds and I had to let Ian know on the Monday that the week was going to be a little different and here below is how he found out!
It was a perfect surprise and he had the best time, and so did Laanii who was desperate to go and see a concert and had asked her Dad so many times that the next time he saw Depeche Mode could she go to, so it was a surprise for her too!
We had a great time in Bucharest, I hung out with Raifey whilst the other two went and enjoyed the concert, and thank goodness they had seats because there was a massive storm right in the middle and everyone in the standing section got soaked!
Such a great reminder that experiences and memories last so much longer than material things and I am so grateful to everyone involved for making it happen!
He was a very VERY happy man!
